This in-person clinic portion of a student's coursework includes practical exercises for aspiring candidates wishing to become U.S. Soccer Grassroots Referees. The goal is to prepare the candidates by offering a SAFE, FUN, and reality-based, holistic experience.
The purpose of this session is to provide an opportunity to reinforce concepts and a knowledge base covered in the online grassroots coursework via practical exercises. The focus must be on preparing the referee candidate to be ready for the first game.
(First Time Grassroots Referees must complete the E-Learning module (grassroots online clinic course).
The In-Person experience also includes online coursework to include:
■ Safe Sport Training (if 18 years old or older)
■ Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments
■ Grassroots Referee Certification Quiz
This in-person clinic is Wednesday 2/26/2020 starting at 5:00 pm and will be performed as a field session. Please be at Adler Soccer Fields, 4 Staudt Street, Boerne, Texas 78006 no later than 4:45 pm. The session will last approximately 2.5 hours.
■ All participants must be 13 years or older.
■ Participants 18 years or older must complete U.S. Soccer's NCSI Background Check before attending the in-person clinic.
Items to Bring to Course:
■ Appropriate training attire for forecasted weather outside.
■ Appropriate and comfortable footwear for outside field training (running shoes, turf shoes or cleats)
■ Water (and snacks if necessary)
■ A whistle (please purchase one prior to attending field training)
■ A properly inflated soccer ball
■ A chair if needed during breaks
■ A phone or tablet
■ Download the IFAB laws of the game app onto your phone or tablet for the clinic
■ A notepad and writing utensil
Policy Regarding Order of Coursework
The online course does not need to be completed prior to attending this in-person clinic though it is highly recommended that you do such. If you do attend this in-person clinic prior to completing the online course work, you will still need to complete the online course work to finalize your referee certification.
Policy Regarding Minimum Number of Participants
A minimum of 10 participants is required to hold this course. If 10 participants have not registered for the course 2 days prior, then the course may be cancelled. If the course is cancelled for this reason, then registered candidates will be able to transfer to another New Grassroots Referee - In-Person Course
Policy Regarding Registration Fees & Refunds
Registration fee must be paid in full at the time of registration and the registration fee for the New Grassroots Referee - In-Person Course is non-refundable if a registrant withdraws from the course. Withdrawal requests must be made via email to the course lead instructor.
