Boerne Soccer Club is thrilled to announce the newest members of our coaching staff, Ben Loney and Bishop Wood!

Coach Ben and Coach Bishop, who will coach in the Academy and Select programs, join BSC with a wealth of experience, energy, and passion for player development.

Welcome to the BSC family, Ben, and Bishop!

Ben Loney

Ben was born and raised in Bournemouth, England, where he enjoyed a successful career on the field before serving in the British Army, before moving the U.S. in 2005. Ben’s coaching career began in the U.S. with Challenger Sports coaching camps, coaching high school, and in club soccer programs across the midwest and east coast.

Ben moved to San Antonio in 2006 to finish out a fall season with Alamo Heights Fire Soccer Club, where he then stayed for 2 years. After marrying his wife, Jen, in 2008, Ben moved to New Braunfels Ajax as the Academy Director/Assistant Director of Coaching, before being offered the role of Director of Coaching at Boerne Soccer Club in 2014. In 2017 Ben was offered a role as Director of Boys ECNL at Classics Elite, where in his first full year he won a National Championship with the U17 (2001) Boys. In 2019 Ben moved to SA United, where he became the Girls Director of coaching for Sting San Antonio, before returning to Boerne Soccer Club in 2022.

Ben is an USSF A License holder and resides in Bulverde with his wife, Jen, and daughters Emelia and Elliott.

“I am excited to return to Boerne Soccer Club and reunite with friends, players, and the great community of Boerne.  Boerne has great potential and has achieved much success recent years. I look forward to working with the coaches and players at the club to continue to elevate the quality of soccer in Boerne and surrounding areas.” - Ben Loney

Bishop Wood

Born and raised in San Antonio, Bishop began playing soccer at the age of 4. Excelling both in the club soccer environment as well as starting for his high school team at John Jay, Bishop then played 4 years at the collegiate level as a starter at Schreiner University, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biology.

Bishop began his coaching career with Hill Country Crush Academy in Kerrville and as a member of the coaching staff at Texas A&M soccer summer camps, before joining Boerne as a Select and Academy coach in 2022.

Bishop has also recently been added to the Schreiner University Men's Soccer Coaching staff as a second assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.

“I’m very excited to be a part of Boerne Soccer Club. The other coaches and staff have been extremely welcoming, and I can’t wait to begin this journey with the players and the entire Boerne Family. I’m looking forward to the development of not only the kids, but myself as a coach.” - Bishop Wood

“We are delighted to welcome two more quality people to the coaching staff at Boerne Soccer Club, in Ben and Bishop.

The talent, experience, and dedication of both will be a huge asset as we strive to create the best environment for the players, families, and staff to learn and love the game. We are all excited to have Ben and Bishop as the newest members of our BSC family.” - Wayne Bartlett, BSC Executive Director.
