Mike Erwin named Director of Coaching, Boerne Soccer Club

Boerne Soccer Club is proud to announce Mike Erwin as the new Director of Coaching.

Mike is beginning his third year at Boerne Soccer Club and 18th year of coaching including 14 years of leadership roles within youth soccer clubs. At Boerne Soccer Club, Mike has served as both a coach and the Director of the Select program.

“The board is excited to have Mike lead us in serving the Boerne community as the Director of Coaching at Boerne Soccer Club,” said Boerne Soccer Club President, Russell Burkey. “Mike has demonstrated his ability to connect with and inspire players as a coach while also successfully leading a key program within our club. I am confident that Mike’s experience and commitment will allow him to continue to lead the players, staff and all involved at the club towards a great future.”

Mike grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He played youth soccer for several top clubs in Albuquerque, winning multiple New Mexico state championships. Mike continued playing collegiately at Chandler Gilbert CC in Arizona for two years, before transferring to the University of New Mexico to earn dual degrees in Political Science and Philosophy. Mike rounded off his soccer career playing semi-professionally for Banat Storm in Phoenix and for the Albuquerque Asylum in the National Premier Soccer League.

In 2005, Mike began his youth soccer coaching career, working for several clubs in New Mexico, including Rio Rapids Soccer Club, a Colorado Rapids Alliance club. At Rio Rapids, Mike served as the Age Group Director for the Multi-age program Director and Elite Player Coordinator, while coaching multiple state champion teams. Mike holds his USSF National Youth License, USSF C license, and is currently working towards his USSF B license.

In addition to his work at Boerne Soccer Club, Mike is the Assistant Coach and Head of Recruitment for St. Mary’s University Women’s Soccer program in San Antonio.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such a great community soccer club and staff. I am excited to build on the successful foundation in place and continue to improve all programs the club has to offer,” said Mike. “I have always been passionate about bringing a love of soccer to players, and will continue to work towards creating a fun, but challenging soccer environment for players of all levels.”

Mike and his wife, Liana, live in San Antonio and are expecting their first child in July.

Boerne Soccer Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to develop ability and character through soccer, in a fun and safe environment.
